E Joseph

Biography

The first question usually goes like this, Is e.joseph a person or a band? The answer is yes to both. e performs both solo and with a band, so no venue is too small or too big, and his songs take on a unique characteristic in either musical setting. e.joseph is the nom de plume of songwriter Ed Neenan, founder/co-founder of bands such as Fiction Bridge, Sunday Cannons, 360 Loose, Bunny and Von Stella. Hes also been a touring and studio "gun for hire" for major indie label power-poppers Splitsville and Mryacle Brah. While driving his various band projects throughout the late 80s and most of the 90s, Neenan supported many noteworthy and musically influential touring artists from The Church, The Lucy Show and The Connells to Throwing Muses, The Soup Dragons, Dumptruck, Tommy Keene, and The Judy Bats. More recently, e.joseph has played venues in LA, Nashville, Boston, and points up and down the east coast supporting national and international artists such as Dave Davies (The Kinks), Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate) and his current band the Miracle 3, as well as Peter Himmelman and John Easdale/Dramarama.

His first solo CD, Absinthe Minded, now brings e full circle. The material is a departure from the alt-rock, power-pop offerings of years past with a more deftly-layered "gazer-esque" approach at times that still honors the power of the pop hook. Albeit a bit less pop in nature, e.joseph delves into somewhat more introspective themes in songs like Low Flying Aircraft, The Necessary Evil, and Aint Life Grand? Recorded and co-produced at Invisible Sound Studios with Dave Nachodsky, "Absinthe Minded" is at its sonic best when e and studio band members Joe Klompus (Jack Drag, Blake Hazzard) and Dave Buckner (Rocket Transfer Warehouse) lift the songs out of alt-folkdom and make a valid case for a strong mid-tempo rock recording that deserves an engaged listen. Fall 2007 will find e.joseph releasing a live CD from his Rams Head On-Stage performance from July 2007 entitled "The Rules of Intimacy" and then back in the studio working on a follow-up release to "Absinthe Minded."
