Q. How many bands will be on the compilation?
A: Our compilations typically feature 15-20 bands, often from around the world.

Q. What happens to my song rights?
A:As a standard of doing business with all clients, Quickstar Productions will never take any publishing/song rights from any songwriter/band. You will retain full copyright to your work! The submission forms on our website only give us the right to use your song for the compilation. The agreement is non-exclusive and it will not interfere if you re-release your song on another CD, your own LP or EP

Q. What do I have to do now that I’ve been selected?
A: We have several options for you to submit your package to us.

  1. The easiest method is to submit online using our web portal. Go to the “Submissions” tab at the top of our page and click “Submit Online”. That will walk you through the entire process. There is space to upload your song, photo, and bio, to fill out the form, and to sign the contract. This is also the fastest way to submit and avoids any extra postage fees.
  2. You can also send everything to us via www.yousendit.com. First, go to the “Submissions” tab at the top of our page and download the proper form for your compilation. You’ll have to print it out, complete the form and sign it, and then re-scan it into your computer. Then, you can upload the form along with everything in the checklist into a package at YouSendIt and e-mail a download link to admin@quickstarproductions.com.
  3. You may directly e-mail the same files as from #2 to admin@quickstarproductions.com. We prefer YouSendIt because it’s more organized, but you may also send the separate components to us this way.
  4. You can also send everything via postal mail if you prefer to be traditional. Download the forms and print and fill them out as in #2 and #3. Burn the photo, bio, and song to a blank CD and put everything in an envelope addressed to:

    Quickstar Productions LLC
    Attn: "Rock 4 Life"
    517 Cathedral St
    Suite B
    Baltimore, MD 21201

    Q. How is the compilation promoted?
A: Quickstar Productions does a lot to promote the compilation on their end, and we expect the same dedication from the artists’ end. We put the compilation in 300+ mp3 retailers worldwide, including the famous ones (iTunes, eMusic, AmazonMP3, Rhapsody) and the not-so-famous ones. We use our promotional network of distributors to send the compilation out to thousands of labels (indie and major), radio stations (college, mainstream, internet), podcasts, and other various industry contacts. We try to get your music into the hands of anybody who could work with it or you. In addition, we promote on Myspace and have a strong presence in our hometown of Baltimore, MD.

We expect the artists and bands on the compilation to promote to the best of their abilities as well. This includes Myspace promotion, flyering at shows, word-of-mouth, and anything else you can think of. We’ve had some bands get very creative in the past and had great results!

    Q. When will the compilation be released?
A: Once we have all of our submissions in, it takes on average 3-5 months to get through mastering, track listing, graphic design, pressing, and shipping. Once everything gets underway, we’ll find out a little better when we think the process will be finished and we’ll do our best to keep you updated.

    Q. How does the digital distribution of the album work?
A: We upload the album to be for sale in over 300 mp3 retailers worldwide. This includes all the famous ones (iTunes, eMusic, AmazonMP3, Rhapsody) and all the not-so-famous ones. After the stores take their cut, we split 50% of everything we get with you after $10 of sales. We will furnish you with a statement and check semiannually.

We do not take exclusive rights to your music. You may re-release the song online on an album if you choose and we will not have any issue. If you have already granted exclusive distribution rights to another company, you may request that we not include your song in the online album.

    Q. Will this compilation be professionally produced?
A: Absolutely. This will be a professionally produced, glass mastered CD. The CD will also be professionally re-mastered so that the compilation runs at the same volume. It will be shrink wrapped, bar coded, and include full color printing. This is not a CD-R!

    Q. How many copies of the compilation will be produced, and how is it distributed?
A: The exact number that we print varies slightly from project to project, from 1000 to about 1500. It depends on how many artists or bands want extra copies for themselves. The main way we distribute the physical copies is through the artists and bands on the compilation. We also hand out free copies to Baltimore show-goers when possible to try and spread it around as much as possible.

    Q. What is a Comp Card?
A: A Comp Card is a credit card size download card that gives your fans access to download your music. You sell it at shows like you would a CD or any other merch, giving you the chance to sell a physical product while promoting your music digitally. Additionally Comp Cards are a green way to promote your music, due to reduced production of physical products and plastics. A: The primary focus of the compilations is music promotion. Our aim is to spread the word about up-and-coming artists. We do a lot on our end to give you opportunities to succeed. We also want the artists and bands to put forth their best effort to promote the compilation.

We also aim to help the artists and bands on the compilation to network with each other and encourage communication, show swapping, flyer sharing, and any other way our artists and bands can collaborate. We’ve had several bands do split EP’s and even tour together.
